Today is “Back Up Your Birth Control with EC Day”

Today is Back Up Your Birth Control with EC Day… and it’s been pretty uneventful. The campaign campaign “aims to raise awareness of and expand access to Emergency Contraception (EC).” It’s been yawn-inducing, rather, judging by the posts on Twitter. Read a recent blog post here.

While the effort to promote EC isn’t much of a surprise, some of the EC E-Cards are rather telling. Messages such as “You’d make a horrible mother. Take EC.” and the card pictured above are de rigueur.

Men 17 and older can get EC over-the-counter. Just another way to cover up underage sexual abuse and child rape.

Flashback to a Nov. 5, 2010, pro-abortion columnwhere the writer refers to a pregnancy as a “sexually-transmitted uterine parasite called a fetus.” The columnist advises women (or men?) to “stock up on Plan B” in light of recent pro-life election gains. He apparently didn’t read the usage instructions for Plan B, the most commonly used form of emergency contraception, which state: “Plan B One-Step™ should not be used as regular birth control… Plan B One-Step™ should only be used in emergencies.”

Good Friday Stations of the Cross

Good Friday holds special significance for pro-lifers, who gather in front of abortion clinics to pray the Stations of the Cross. As in years past, Pro-Life Wisconsin and our affiliates will be holding pro-life Stations of the Cross in memory of all those lost to abortion and for all those grieving a loss.

-          Milwaukee: Good Friday April 22, 9 a.m., Stations of the Cross will begin at Three Holy Women/St. Rita’s (1601 N. Cass St., Milwaukee) with procession to Affiliated Medical Services (1428 N. Farwell Ave., Milwaukee)

-          Vigil for Life of Madison: Good Friday April 22, 5 p.m. at Planned Parenthood, 3706 Orin Road, Madison).

-          Pro-Life Wisconsin Winnebago County and Outagamie County: Palm Sunday, April 17, 1 p.m. at Planned Parenthood, 508 W. Wisconsin Ave, Appleton.

-          Green Bay: 40 Days for Life Green Bay and the pro-life student group at St. Norbert College will close the 40-day prayer vigil on Palm Sunday, April 17 with Stations of the Cross at 5 p.m. at OB-GYN Associates of Green Bay, Medical Arts Building & Bellin Hospital , 704 S. Webster Ave., Green Bay.

Police overkill continues

There has always been a tense relationship between pro-lifers and Milwaukee police. It is a sad situation played out across the country.

In 2004, Bob Hamill — the husband of state director Peggy Hamill — was arrested at a (now closed, thank God) abortion facility in downtown Milwaukee. He was arrested for declining orders to “Keep moving” on a public sidewalk. Read the 2004 press release here.

The City of Milwaukee is currently embroiled in a lawsuit over their treatment of pro-lifers. Read the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article here.

Milwaukee County Sheriff deputies deliver female prisoners to Affiliated Medical Services for abortions, in shackles and handcuffs.

Most recently, on March 24, charges against a pro-life sidewalk counselor were dropped in Milwaukee municipal court. Thank God for pro-life lawyers.

This past Saturday, a Walk for Choice was supposed to take place on Milwaukee’s east side. Read about the Walk’s epic failure here. But a curious thing happened while we were waiting for the pro-aborts to do their Walk. We noticed a lot of police cars in the area.

In a parking lot 1 block down from Affiliated, there were 5 Milwaukee Police Department squad cars, 1 unmarked squad car and 2 paddy wagons. In addition, there were 3 squad cars in a gas station across the street from Affiliated. Somehow we doubt the paddy wagons were there to haul off unruly pro-aborts. It was frustrating to see all the police there, obviously we didn’t call them so it was the pro-aborts who let them know about their Walk for Choice plans. And we doubt the Walk for Choice will receive a bill for all the wasted taxpayer dollars in police staff time and vehicle time.

On a “normal” Saturday, usually a squad car drives by every 15-30 minutes just to check things out. So you could say this was overkill.

Apparently in Milwaukee, unless taxpayer dollars are wasted, money isn’t made.

Four days, three pickets, two saves, countless prayers to end abortion and 1 failed Walk for Choice

Wow. Last week was one for the records as far as pro-life activity goes.

Wednesday, March 23: Ryan Bomberger of The Radiance Foundation spoke in Madison. Read a blog post here about his talk. Ryan also spoke at Catholic Memorial High School and Lumen Christi Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 22.

Thursday, March 24: Sidewalk counselors had a save in Milwaukee at Affiliated Medical Services, where 40 Days for Life is observed. This marks the eleventh baby saved in Milwaukee since 40 DFL began on Ash Wednesday – and we’re not even half way through! Thanks, Lord. Also on Thursday, a woman and her two-year-old stopped by 40 DFL in Milwaukee. She wanted to show sidewalk counselors her little boy, alive today due to pro-lifers’ sidewalk counseling efforts. No one knew about this save until that very moment; like so much of the work that we do, the fruits are sometimes seen much (even years!) later.

Friday, March 25: Planned Parenthood’s pink bus (nicknamed the “Pepto Bus” by pro-lifers) rolls into Madison and Milwaukee. Planned Parenthood has been attempting to make over their public image by taking this bus to various PP facilities around the country.

In an interesting twist, the PP bus drove past our “Choice Kills” billboard in the Planned Parenthood parking lot. The PP bus even stopped to observe and read the billboard. Wheels were turning, to be sure. See photo, left/below.

In Milwaukee, a group of pro-life teens from Appleton joined us, and the Pepto Bus, at the Planned Parenthood that was the site of a Live Action undercover sting in 2009.

Rep. Gwen Moore spoke on Planned Parenthood’s behalf.

Saturday, March 26: A Walk for Choice in Milwaukee failed… in epic proportions. The Walk was supposed to occur from 2-4pm, beginning at Gordon Commons, proceed past Affiliated Medical Services and end up on the UW-Milwaukee campus. In response to the Walk for Choice call to wear orange, pro-lifers dug out their best orange clothing and waited… and waited… and waited for the Walk to go past.

What did we find? Two lonely pro-aborts (photo, above) sitting on a bench in the park, with their signs… and no orange. Guess it’s difficult to get excited about abortion when you’re not being paid to attend an event (as most of the attendees at Planned Parenthood’s Pepto Bus rallies were paid staff members). Sidewalk counselors had a save in Milwaukee on Saturday as well.

Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 27: Pro-lifers in La Crosse hold a 40-hour prayer vigil.

Thank you to everyone who prayed or protested with us this week (in the picture, left, you can see most of the 2 dozen pro-lifers who wore orange in honor of the Walk for Choice on Saturday in Milwaukee). Thank you to everyone who couldn’t be there but kept us in your prayers. Thank you to everyone who attended Ryan Bomberger’s excellent presentation.

“Better dead than Ramen” Gwen Moore to speak at PP rally

Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) will be speaking at a Planned Parenthood rally when the “Pepto Bus” stops in Milwaukee.

During a recent U.S. House debate on federal taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, Moore stated that abortion was better for unplanned babies than a life “eating Ramen noodles” or “mayonnaise sandwiches.” Read more here.

The Pepto Bus stop in Milwaukee will at 4 p.m. outside the Planned Parenthood at 5380 W. Fond du Lac Ave (54th & Capitol Dr). This PP location has the distinction of being subject of a Live Action undercover sting in 2009. In the footage, PP staff attempts to pressure a woman into abortion and distorts fetal development facts. Read the Live Action press release and watch the video here.

Rep. Moore has the distinction of receiving a 100% pro-abortion rating from Planned Parenthood of America’s federal PAC. Moore is in favor of military abortions, taxpayer-funded abortions, “international access to contraceptives” [translated: the US pushing their views on countries where abortion is still illegal] and so on.

Join us in peaceful protest and prayer on Friday, March 25 at the Pepto Bus stops — 11:30 in Madison and 4pm in Milwaukee!
- Madison:
11:30 a.m. on S. Park St. outside the 2222 S. Park St. Planned Parenthood.
- Milwaukee: 4 p.m. outside the Planned Parenthood at 5380 W. Fond du Lac Ave (54th & Capitol Dr).

BRING RAMEN! We will be donating it to local food pantries.

Human Dignity: The Power of Possibility

Human Dignity: The Power of Possibility was the title of a pro-life talk last night in Madison, given by Ryan Bomberger of The Radiance Foundation at the Bishop O’Connor Center in Madison. See photo, above.

Pro-Life Wisconsin partnered with The Radiance Foundation for a billboard currently in the parking lot of a Madison Planned Parenthood, and also for 13 billboards in the city of Milwaukee last December.

Ryan’s life story, which he courageously shares, puts a face on the “exceptions” cases — babies conceived in rape or incest, or those who would be aborted due to fetal abnormality or a perceived threat to the mother’s life. Ryan is the face of so many who are not with us today, due to the lie of “choice.”

Ryan has a unique perspective of the innate nature of Purpose.  His biological mother was raped yet chose to go through 9 months of pregnancy, choosing to give him Life. He was adopted as a baby and grew up in a loving, multi-racial Christian family of 15, which gave him a great appreciation for diversity. Ten of the thirteen children were adopted in this remarkable family. He was once considered “black and unwanted” but instead was adopted and loved.

Today, he is an Emmy® Award-winning Creative Professional who has made an unexpected impact in the pro-life movement with the bold TooManyAborted.com billboard/web campaign. The Radiance Foundation, a non-profit founded by Ryan and his wife Bethany, created and directs the campaign and caused a media frenzy with massive coverage from The New York Times, the Associated Press, Fox News, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, our very own Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Capital Times and seemingly the entire blogosphere. The extensive media attention enabled The Radiance Foundation, and Ryan’s personal story of adoption, to reach millions.  Working in conjunction with noted national civil rights leaders like Catherine Davis, Walter Hoye, and Dr. Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), Ryan is involved in national efforts to expose Planned Parenthood and defund the killing machine.

Ryan discussed his life story, the work The Radiance Foundation does around the country, and discussed how abortion and Planned Parenthood destroy human dignity and possibility.

Our deepest gratitude to Vigil for Life of Madison and the Diocese of Madison for co-sponsoring the event. If you have the opportunity to hear Ryan speak, we strongly recommend it!

Planned Parenthood’s “Pepto Bus” to rally at site of Milwaukee Live Action sting

Planned Parenthood is having “I Stand with Planned Parenthood” rallies at PP locations across the Midwest. Milwaukee and Madison PPs are on the list of the stops. In what could be described as an ironic twist, the Planned Parenthood bus — nicknamed the “Pepto Bus” — will be stopping at a Milwaukee Planned Parenthood that was the site of a Live Action undercover sting.

On April 12, 2010, Live Action released video footage taken on September 9, 2009, showing PP staff pressuring a woman into abortion and distorting fetal development facts. Read the Live Action press release and watch the video here. The PP bus will be stopping at that Planned Parenthood, located at 5380 W. Fond du Lac Ave (54th & Capitol Dr).

Also included in the PP Wisconsin bus stop is a Planned Parenthood at 2222 S. Park St. in Madison. Currently in that Planned Parenthood’s parking lot is a Pro-Life Wisconsin billboard proclaiming “Choice Kills Those Without One.”

Interesting times. Planned Parenthood is feeling the heat so much they schedule stops at a PP that was caught giving misleading medical advice and a PP with a “controversial” billboard in its parking lot?

Pro-Life Wisconsin will be hosting peaceful prayer protests at both these locations. Join us in praying to end abortion!

Join us in peaceful protest and prayer at 11:30 in Madison and 4pm in Milwaukee!
- Madison:
11:30 a.m. on S. Park St. outside the 2222 S. Park St. Planned Parenthood.
- Milwaukee: 4 p.m. outside the Planned Parenthood at 5380 W. Fond du Lac Ave (54th & Capitol Dr).

40 Days for Life La Crosse to hold 40 hour prayer vigil

40 Days for Life La Crosse will be holding a 40 Hour Vigil for Life in conjunction with the national 40 day campaign to pray for an increase in respect for the dignity of all human life.

  • We will begin with a Eucharistic procession from St. James the Less Church on Caledonia and Windsor Streets in La Crosse at 2:30pm on Friday, March 25.
  • Fr. Scheckel will lead the procession around two blocks, past Options and back to St. James.
  • We will be joined by the Staff and students of Providence Academy and we will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet while we process.
  • Then, for 40 hours, from 3 pm Friday, March 25th, through 7 am Sunday, March 27th, we will be holding simultaneous indoor and outdoor vigils.
  • There will be Adoration in St. James while the prayer vigil is taking place outside of Options just a couple blocks away.
  • We will conclude with Mass on Sunday March 27th at 7:30 am at St. James.

This is the first time we’ve tried this and will need as many bodies to help as we can get.  We are looking for everyone… men, women and children, young, old and everything in between.

We are especially appealing to the men. Because we will be conducting the vigil over two entire nights, we would really like to see the men step up and stand up for and with their mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and friends.

To sign up for a time slot, please contact:  Elizabeth Garibaldi at lizzdemos@yahoo.com or (608) 769-4014 or Jennifer Fisk at pfisk@centurytel.net or (608) 783-0246. You can also sign up online at www.40daysforlife.com/lacrosse. Just click on “Vigil Schedule” then on the “Click here to sign up for vigil” and follow the instructions.

Saved by a Sign

We have shared some of the experiences from this spring’s 40 Days for Life effort. Here’s three of the best just from yesterday, March 21.

From 40 Days for Life Green Bay:

We were approached by a beautiful young woman, today, with a smile beaming across her face. She said she had to thank us and let us know, “You don’t know the effect you are having on the people in these buildings, We are watching you.”  She shared how she had found herself pregnant, and, “I was in school and 40 years old and I didn’t know if I could do it again.”  She was planning an abortion but kept seeing, “You ladies with your signs.”

With a proud voice she opened her phone to a picture and said, “This is Vernon.  He’s 4 months old.”  (What a cute baby and he had the biggest smile ever!)  Mom had now graduated, and was just on her way home from a job interview when she stopped to share her story with us.

Her parting words were, “Keep doing what you are doing.”

I feel that sign someone carried was God’s whisper to her heart, to affirm what she already knew — “Abortion hurts Women.” Baby Vernon was saved by a sign on Webster.

From 40 Days for Life Sheboygan (coordinated solely by teens in the area!):

Everything has been going so well for the campaign so far!  God is good!  The pro-life rally was a great place for people to sign up, and after the rally, we only had four days that had no sign ups on them yet.  The Monday after the rally, we had our team meeting and prayed that at those days would be filled.  Three of the days were in a row on a weekend and the other day was a Sunday in April.  The day after our meeting, a family who had wanted to sign up sent us an e-mail asking if those particular days, the three empty ones in a row, were open.  They had no idea that we had no one on those days and that we had been praying for those days to be filled.  The whole team was so excited when we heard that!  It was like God was showing us that He is in control over this whole thing and he won’t let us go.  We all saw that as a direct answer to prayer.

While the team was out there on Wednesday, we saw a few teens in the parking lot behind us.  When they drove out and passed us, they all waved and looked excited for us.  One girl mouthed the words to us, “I chose life.”  Even if we had nothing to do with what she chose, it was still so good to see others respond in a great way.  As we stood out there, quite a few semi trucks beeped their horns for us too.

From 40 Days for Life Milwaukee:

Today, at about 10 am, a young, late teens/early twenty-something, red-head and her middle aged father were headed to ‘Hell with Doors.’ Thankfully, they didn’t do their homework, as the abortion mill is almost always closed on Mondays.  The ‘grandfather’ tellingly, was leading the way, and pulled on the door to the abortion mill.  He buzzed and buzzed on ‘Hell’s Doorbell’ to no avail, saying nothing. While they were waiting in ‘Hell’s Portal,’ one of our vigilers told them that, “There’s all sorts of free help across the street – free ultrasounds and pregnancy tests.  Why don’t you guys go across the street and get some good, free help.”  The young red-head responded, “Yeah, Dad, we’re here to get help!” Red and her father then turned around as she tugged on her dad’s arm.  The grandfather never made eye contact with us, looking away or down to the side with pursed lips.  Red-head looked to us with her blue eyes as if to say, “Thank you.”  Body language 101 – she is being coerced.  When ‘Red’ came out with her father about 10:49am, she wasn’t carrying anything other than a yellow piece of paper and some other papers.  She was holding them to her upper abdomen.  Usually, the young mom’s come out of this CPC with a bag of some sort, but she didn’t have one.  I could tell they were talking to one another.  ‘Red’ was leading them now.  Her father had one hand in his pocket and the other was held up to his right temple, as if he had a headache.

The ‘grandfather’s’ body language told me one thing for sure.  Pray for this young mom and her family.  The fact that ‘Red’ wanted to get good help tells me that she wants to keep the baby.  Her father’s willingness to go across the street without an argument or any spoken words whatsoever between the two at ‘Hell’s Portal’ make me think he was embarrassed to have been seen at the abortion mill, she is their youngest daughter and they will let her do what she wants, but not without a fight.  Please storm the heavens with your prayers for this brave, young woman.  I feel she is going to need all the help she can get.

A Walk for Choice AND visits by the Planned Parenthood “Pepto Bus”? Oh no!

As Jill Stanek observed, the nationwide Walks for Choice held in February were more of a limp than any quick movement. There is a Milwaukee “Walk for Choice” apparently scheduled for this upcoming Saturday, March 26, but judging by the lack of enthusiasm, it may not make it to the finish line. See the Walk for Choice Facebook page here or a post on the organizors’ website here. Will the Milwaukee Walk for Choice make it out of the starting gate?

The day before the Walk for Choice, the Planned Parenthood “Pepto Bus” will be pulling into town. It is scheduled to stop in Madison and Milwaukee. The Madison stop is where our “Choice Kills Those Without One” billboard is located. Interestingly, the bus will not be stopping at Planned Parenthood on Orin Rd. in Madison, where surgical abortions are performed (and, coincidentally?, the site of a perpetual pro-life prayer presence!)  The Milwaukee stop is TBD.

Why all the Planned Parenthood / pro-abortion activity? Under Gov. Walker’s budget, which cuts Title V funding, nine Planned Parenthood locations would be impacted financially, they claim. Losing funding for nine locations would put a mighty big dent in the PPWI empire.

Join us in prayer at Planned Parenthood facilities
Friday, March 25 — the day the Pepto Bus comes to town — is the day Christians worldwide celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation. Exactly nine months before Christmas, this holy day commemorates that glorious moment when “the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.”

Planned Parenthood has chosen this day to bring its bus tour to Milwaukee and Madison. Designed to ensure the abortion giant continues to rake in hundreds of millions of YOUR tax dollars every year, this desperate campaign aims to “demonstrate our community’s strong support for Planned Parenthood.”

While the Planned Parenthood propaganda machine rolls into town, we need you to join us in a peaceful, prayerful witness. Let’s come together on the sidewalks to educate our community that abortion and birth control are not health care. To tell Planned Parenthood we shouldn’t be forced to pay for the destruction they cause. To show the Lord that we trust in Him.

Join us in peaceful protest and prayer at 11:30 in Madison and 4pm in Milwaukee!
- Madison:
11:30 a.m. on S. Park St. outside the 2222 S. Park St. Planned Parenthood.
- Milwaukee: 4 p.m. at the Planned Parenthood on 5380 W. Fond du Lac Ave (near 54th & Capitol Dr).
