Milwaukee County Sheriff deputies deliver female prisoner to Milwaukee abortuary, in shackles and handcuffs

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Above: A Cemetery of the Innocents at Carroll College in Waukesha. The crosses symbolize the lives lost to abortion.

Affiliated Medical Services, located at 1428 N. Farwell Ave. in Milwaukee, is one of the four surgical abortion facilities in the state of Wisconsin. It is the only facility in the state that performs late-term abortions. 40 Days for Life has been observed at Affiliated for a couple years, and vigilers have seen the sad, the joyful, the unexpected, the heart-breaking and the truly awful.

This morning, a male Milwaukee County Sheriff deputy and a female security agent brought a female prisoner to Affiliated. An additional male sheriff deputy arrived to deliver her paperwork. The male deputies were in uniform, and the prisoner was in shackles and handcuffs.

A recent email from a post-abortive woman, published by Jill Stanek on her blog, illustrates all too well how abortion hurts women, how women feel they have no other choice, and how women are coerced into abortion. Please take a moment to read it. Recent statistics indicate that one in three women will have an abortion by the time she is 45 — if you’re not one of these one in three, it may be your best friend, your sister, a co-worker, etc. Be educated on how to talk to women in crisis, and encourage those who are post-abortive to seek counseling.

Today is St. Patrick’s Day. We ask all of you to pray for this woman and the officers who delivered her to the abortuary.

“If I have any worth, it is to live my life for God as to teach these peoples; even though some of them still look down on me.” – St. Patrick.

Update, 3/18: Two women did choose life for their babies, in response to sidewalk counselors’ efforts. Sadly, the female prisoner was prevented by the deputies from even speaking to pro-lifers, by way of a “Shut up.”

“Choice Kills” billboard in Planned Parenthood’s parking lot

UW-Madison embryonic stem cell researcher awarded $500,000 for his work

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

From a UW-Madison press release today, 3/16:

Dr. James Thomson, who was the first to isolate and grow human embryonic stem cells in culture, has been named a recipient of the nation’s largest award in medicine and science.

We’ve written in the past about how embryonic stem cell research [ESCR] is big money for UW. In short, UW receives $5 million annually in federal taxpayer funds for ESCR.

A 2001 TIME magazine article glorified Thomson’s work, featuring Thomson on the cover.

Some excerpts from the TIME article:

In November 1998, when [Thomson] was just nudging 40, he not only succeeded in culling stem cells from “surplus” embryos created at fertility clinics but also kept them alive and reproducing indefinitely… In the jargon of cell research, they were immortal [truly horrific.] Only a few days later, fellow stem-cell researcher John Gearhart of Johns Hopkins University published word that he had succeeding in cultivating a line of stem cells from the germ cells of aborted fetuses.

And on and on and on. To read the article is to peek into Dr. Frankenstein’s lab… science fiction/fantasy no more.

Looks like our “Choice” billboard has already struck a nerve…

Madison’s admittedly liberal Capital Times newspaper did an article today on our new billboard effort in Madison. From NARAL Wisconsin’s Facebook page:

Ryan Bomberger of The Radiance Foundation posted a reply:

Choice Kills Those Without One

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

A pro-life billboard placed on S. Park Street in Madison will be there for the next 30 days, near a Planned Parenthood that targets minorities.

Abortion is not a true choice for the unborn, for women or for men. Abortion providers prey on those who feel they have no choice, and this campaign highlights this daily reality. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin provides taxpayer-funded birth control to young girls without their parents’ knowledge or consent. PPWI has been shown in recent video exposés to cover up sexual abuse of minors and distort medical facts of fetal development.

The billboards aim to raise awareness about abortion, Planned Parenthood’s history of racism and the continuing eugenics movement in Wisconsin. The campaign directs the public to TooManyAborted.com and was created by Ryan Bomberger (who is biracial), the Chief Creative Officer of The Radiance Foundation.

“Our goal is to expose an industry that doesn’t trust women enough to tell them the truth, injects gender animosity by demonizing men, and targets minorities resulting in hugely disproportionate rates of abortion in the urban community,” explained Bomberger.

The billboards are a collaborative effort between Pro-Life Wisconsin and the national organization The Radiance Foundation. In December of 2010, Pro-Life Wisconsin and The Radiance Foundation partnered to bring a pro-life message to the Milwaukee area with thirteen “Too Many Aborted” billboards.

Day at the Capitol wrap-up report

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Yesterday, March 10, was our Day at the Capitol, held biannually at the Monona Terrace to educate and inspire citizens on issues affecting life and family. Last week, when the State Capitol was shut down, we realized we had to develop a contingency plan, knowing it was very possible people would not be able to, or want to, enter the mayhem surrounding the Capitol building.

Due to the State Senate budget vote on Wednesday, March 9, on the budget repair bill and the ensuing mayhem, security personnel for our scheduled speakers — Lieutenant Gov. Rebecca  Kleefisch, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, Senate Assistant Majority Leader Glenn Grothman, Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald and Assembly Majority Leader Scott Suder — advised them not to come to Madison, and if they were in Madison, not to leave the Capitol building. We later found out that death threats were made against their lives. Planned Parenthood is involved in these political efforts, as you can tell from their Facebook page.

Photo, above: State Rep. Andre Jacque (left) and PLW’s legislative director Matt Sande (right); PLW’s communications director Virginia Zignego and State Sen. Glenn Grothman.

Despite the warning, Sen. Glenn Grothman did attend the Day at the Capitol and gave a rousing talk to the crowd on defunding Planned Parenthood. We are very grateful to Sen. Grothman and the other representatives who very much wanted to be there, but could not out of fear for their own safety. And thanks to Rep. Andre Jacque for dropping by!

After the educational talks at the Monona Terrace, pro-lifers went to a pro-life Mass at the nearby St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and to the Planned Parenthood on Orin Road for prayer and sidewalk counseling. Some pro-lifers braved the scene at the State Capitol to lobby their legislators. After being heckled and taunted by union supporters, pro-lifers were advised to leave the Capitol building, due to the Assembly vote on the Budget Repair Bill and the chaos that was expected to (and did) ensue.

In the words of former U.S. Senate candidate Dave Westlake, who campaigned for Russ Feingold’s seat: We can debate all we want about collective bargaining. But you know what is a basic civil right? Being able to safely enter, work at, and leave your office without having your life threatened. So the irony here is that while the Republican Senators are accused of violating civil rights, those making the accusations ACTUALLY ARE violating the lawmakers’ civil rights.

On the first day of 40 Days for Life, a sobering reminder of why we are here

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

40 Days for Life kicked off today in 247 cites — locations from coast to coast in the United States as well as sites in Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, Spain, Georgia, Armenia and Belize.

This morning in Milwaukee, sidewalk counselors and pro-lifers received a sobering reminder of why we stand in prayer in front of abortion facilities, offering hope and healing.

Stericycle is an international company that incinerates medical waste disposal. What does this mean for the abortion industry? Stericycle hauls away the aborted babies and the parts (perhaps on an international level). A campaign is underway to expose Stericycle for what it really is.

Early this morning — the first day of 40 Days for Life, and Ash Wednesday (the beginning of Lent) for Catholics — the Stericycle truck arrived at Affiliated Medical Services to haul away the Milwaukee abortion facility’s aborted baby parts. Pray to end abortion!

Fr. Don Hying: Now is the time to give witness to our pro-life beliefs!

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Written by Father Don Hying, Rector of St. Francis de Sales Seminary in Milwaukee, about a recent experience praying at Affiliated Medical Services in Milwaukee. Pray for our priests, sidewalk counselors and all those who join us in prayer outside abortion facilities.

Late last Saturday morning, a group of us went to pray at the abortuary on Farwell Avenue. Usually, I go earlier in the day when pregnant women are entering the building and the pro-abortion escorts are stationed in front to keep the clients from talking to us. At 11 AM, the escorts were gone because all of the women were already inside. One by one, the women came out, walking slowly, looking dazed, holding a brown bag, gingerly entering their boyfriend’s car and driving away. It was heartbreaking, like watching a steady stream of casualties returning from some gruesome and hidden front, where the invisible violence could only be read on the bodies of the survivors.

After praying a Rosary and a Chaplet of Divine Mercy, we were thinking about leaving when suddenly a woman who has worked at the abortion mill for years in some form of management came driving up in her Jaguar, dashed inside and emerged moments later. As she passed me, I said quietly, almost to myself, “Stop killing people here!” She turned on me in a visceral and hysterical rage, shouting about priests abusing little boys, calling me “pathetic”, enraged by my promise to pray for her and finally giving me the finger as she drove away.

What struck me about such a brief and disturbing incident was the startling fact that the woman never denied that she was indeed helping to kill people or that what I had said was in any way false. Unable to articulate any cogent or logical response to my quiet demand, she responded with hysteria, obscenity and ad hominem assaults. The immediate reaction of rage and hate, shorn of any logic or sense, led me to see how weakened the abortionist position has become. With the crisis pregnancy center across the street, growing numbers of people who identify themselves as pro-life and new legislative momentum, the folks at Affiliated see the power of their pro-death stance weakening.

With 40 Days For Life starting this Ash Wednesday, now is the time for us to give public witness to our belief in the sanctity of nascent life.  The abortionists want their deeds to go unseen, unnoticed and unchallenged. By our public prayer and presence, we shine the light of God on a very dark place.

The truth about emergency contraception goes to UW-Madison

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Students at Wisconsin’s largest college, opening their student newspapers this spring, are seeing a reminder from Pro-Life Wisconsin, advising them to make smart choices about their health. The ads are in UW-Madison’s Badger Herald and Daily Cardinal student newspapers today.

Emergency contraception is a powerful, high dose of steroids that tricks a woman’s body into thinking it is pregnant. These steroids can cause pre-implantation chemical abortions and can harm women’s health.

In the past, some University of Wisconsin campuses have promoted EC to students, urging them to “prepare” by stocking up on it. In 2008, three colleges censored the ad — the Marquette University Tribune, the UW-La Crosse Racquet and the UW-Stout Stoutonia. Read a 2008 blog post from Jill Stanek here. And for those who are wondering, the Badger Herald is not exactly a pro-life holdout (read a March 7, 2011 editorial board position defending taxpayer-funded birth control here).

In addition, UW- Madison is pushing condoms and sunscreen in the same breath to students, while acknowledging that most students spend spring break at home with their parents. Do UW administrators think kids sit on their parents’ couch, watching TV, and break out the sunscreen and condoms?

“Babies are too damn hard. Take EC.”

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Perhaps because the Blog for Choice Day was such a rousing success (ha), pro-aborts are organizing a March 30th Back Up Your Birth Control campaign” for high school and college students.

Also available are “EC E-Cards” (pictured above.) Perfect to send someone before or after meaningless sex. Were these cards created FOR women or BY women? I have a hard time believing they were designed by women. Seriously, do you know what EC does to your body?
