Wisconsin abortions decreased in 2010!

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Today, the state of Wisconsin Department of Health Services released its annual report [PDF] on induced abortions in Wisconsin. The total number of abortions in Wisconsin in 2010 was 7,825, down from 8,542 in 2009.

We know from Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s own annual report that PPWI performed 612 less abortions in 2010 than 2009.

The decline comes after abortions increased 3.8% between 2008 and 2009. Prior to that, abortions dropped for five straight years. State law requires any facility that provides abortions to report statistics to the Department of Health Services for an annual report.

Pro-Life Wisconsin is working to see the end of abortion in Wisconsin, through the media, pro-life legislation, peaceful activism and prayerful witness.

As we are in the midst of 40 Days for Life, this decrease in abortions is a real boost, and we thank God for the decrease. Our increased presence in front of Wisconsin’s abortion facilities, whether it’s sidewalk counseling or 40 Days for Life, means that more women are celebrating the births of their children and getting the help they need. Our True to Life media campaign has focused on crisis pregnancy outreach throughout Wisconsin, emphasizing the humanity of the preborn.

Of the 7,591 reported induced abortions among Wisconsin residents in 2010, 73 percent were surgical, 26 percent were chemically induced, and 0.7 percent were surgical procedures following a failed or incomplete chemically induced abortion.  In 2009, these proportions were 72 percent, 27 percent, and 0.6 percent, respectively.

77% of abortions were obtained by women who had never been married.

In line with previous years, 24% of abortions were obtained by black women, even though African Americans compromise just 6% of Wisconsin’s population.

Steve Jobs, adopted as a newborn, had Wisconsin roots

Re-posting from the blog Pro-Life in Tennessee, written by a Wisconsin native:

While we love our I pads and I phones and mourn the passing of Steve Jobs….human being….genius…..did you know he was just “products of conception?”

It started with two graduate students from the University of Wisconsin.  Joanne Schiebel  got pregnant from Syrian  Political Science professor Abdulfattah Jandali. Her parents did not approve of them marrying, they did not have the financial resources , and  she wanted to continue her education.

Yes, this was pre Roe vs Wade but abortions were still being done. Joanne decided on an adoption plan for her pre born child. She felt strongly that she wanted her child to be well educated and selected a lawyer and his wife. But when Steve was born the selected couple declined because they really wanted a girl….remember this was before ultrasounds. So another couple got the call to  adopt the bouncing baby boy. Joanne  was skeptical at first because they did not have the education she was looking for. The husband was a machinist and the mother an accountant. But they promised they would provide this baby with the opportunity to go to college. They kept that promise working hard and sacrificing to send Steve to college but as we know he dropped out after one semester,  frustrated with the constraints of formal education.

He benefited from a stable family and a strong father/son relationship:

As a boy, Jobs and his father would work on electronics in the family garage. Paul would show his son how to take apart and reconstruct electronics, a hobby which instilled confidence, tenacity, and mechanical prowess in young Jobs.

Much is being written about Jobs today. But for all his accomplishments let’s remember some heroes in the background. Joanne Schiebel who did not think of her pre born child as just “products of conception.” She choose life and made an adoption plan with his best interest in mind.

RIP…..Steve Jobs….products of conception

Pro-aborts launch (another) anti-40 Days for Life campaign

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

We’ve written in the past about Forty4Forty, an effort by NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin to raise money during 40 Days for Life, whereby abortion supporters make a monetary pledge.

In the windows of Affiliated Medical Services, where 40 Days for Life is observed in Milwaukee, we noticed something different this year — a new poster.

That’s right — “40 Days for Prayer to Keep Abortion Safe & Legal.” Faith Aloud sells the poster and an assortment of buttons for $45. The list of daily prayers are on Faith Aloud’s website. Sounds like prayers so that an aging movement doesn’t die off to me.

What does this mean? Pro-aborts have recognized that because of prayer, women choose life. Through prayer, hearts and minds are changed. Thank you to everyone who stands with us in praying for an end to abortion~

40 Days for Life news

Approximately 150 people turned out on Tuesday, September 27 for the 40 Days for Life kickoff in Madison. Dr. Nancy Fredericks — the whistleblower who exposed the University of Wisconsin’s secret plans to perform late-term abortions at the Madison Surgery Center — shared the inside story behind the derailment of the late-term abortion plans, her personal trials, and the role 40 Days for Life played.

40 Days for Life in Milwaukee had a save on Day 2, Thursday, September 29. In just over a year’s time, close to 100 babies have been spared from abortion in Milwaukee, due to the presence of sidewalk counselors and prayerful witness.

The Wausau 40 Days for Life made the local news on September 28. The news story is fair to pro-lifers, at least. If you watch the video, you will notice the interview with the Family Planning Health Services worker, where she alludes to how people praying make the workers uncomfortable. This is, interestingly, one of the points about 40 Days for Life that Abby Johnson made in her book Unplanned– the reality of what abortion workers do is brought into focus by the thought and sight of people praying on the sidewalk for 40 days.

Walking for life in Wausau:

WAUSAU (WAOW)–The nationwide movement 40 Days for Life kicked off Wednesday. The group’s Wausau-based chapter will be walking and praying outside the Family Planning and Health Services location on Third Avenue until November.

Cathy Stephan spent an hour on Wednesday afternoon walking along the sidewalk, praying the rosary. “It’s more a prayer vigil, it’s not a protest,” she said.

According to the group’s website, 40 Days for Life is committed to finding peaceful ways to end abortion. Stephan said the local group believes the same. “We’re Catholic so we pray rosaries and we’re asking God to help save the lives of unborn children who might be at risk today from abortion.”

Join us in prayer! 40 Days for Life needs people to sign up for hours across the state.
